Why choose Brazing Paste?

Brazing pastes offer numerous advantages over solid forms of brazing media such as rods and preforms. Brazing paste is very versatile and is as well-suited to high throughput, fully automated production environments as it is to lower throughput, semi-automated or manual production processes.

The brazing paste comprises a filler metal, a flux and a specially engineered, proprietary binder system. With a large number of fluxed and flux-less binder systems available along with multiple different alloys, there is great scope to tailor a product which is optimised to meet the temperature ranges and brazing requirements of specific customer applications.

Key advantages to brazing with paste over other forms of braze media are:

  • Flux type, filler metal type, metal content and powder particle size can all be adjusted in a brazing paste to provide a tailored solution optimised for a huge range of manufacturing applications.
  • Brazing paste is a homogeneous blend of filler metal and fluxed binder that can be applied directly to the assembly; this eliminates the pre-fluxing step that is required with metal pre-forms and helps to minimise material waste and improve production efficiency.
  • Brazing paste lends itself to semi- and fully-automated production environments where high throughput of assemblies is required.
  • Brazing paste can be used with all heating methods including flame, induction and furnace.
  • Brazing paste can be used for all joint shapes, an advantage over metal preforms which are part-specific with each joint requiring its own engineered shape and volume.
  • Reduced risk of overheating: Some traditional brazing methods run the risk of overheating components, which can lead to damage. Fusion brazing paste can help reduce this risk by distributing heat in a controlled and even manner.
  • Oxidation resistance: Fusion brazing pastes can provide additional protection against oxidation of surfaces of brazed components, which can be critical for oxidation-sensitive joints.
  • Easier to clean: Once the brazing process is complete, the brazing paste residue can be easily removed, making components easier to clean than traditional methods.
